Hands-Free Voice Periodontal Charting

Bola.AI and Denti.AI require a practice-level account — you can't sign up as an individual assistant. Bring this guide to your dentist or office manager and suggest a demo. Both tools offer free demos and easy onboarding.

1. Go to bola.ai (or denti.ai) and click Request a Demo or Get Started
2. Complete the contact form — they'll schedule a 20-minute setup call
3. Have your PMS name and version ready (e.g., "Dentrix 21.2" or "Eaglesoft")

What you should see: A confirmation email with a scheduled call time within 1–2 business days.

Troubleshooting: If the demo team asks about PMS version, check in Dentrix under Help → About, or ask your office manager.

During the setup call, a Bola.AI team member walks you through the integration. This typically takes under 15 minutes and involves:

1. Downloading the Bola.AI app or browser extension to the operatory computer
2. Granting permission to interface with your PMS (standard process — they've done this hundreds of times)
3. Confirming a test chart populates correctly

What you should see: A perio chart in your PMS that populates in real time as measurements are called out.

Troubleshooting: If the integration fails to connect, check that the PMS is running and not in demo mode. Your IT contact or the Bola.AI support team can diagnose within minutes.

Bola.AI uses a specific calling sequence — the same one most practices use for manual charting:

1. Tooth number (e.g., "Tooth 3")
2. Surface (Buccal or Lingual)
3. Three measurements called in sequence (e.g., "4, 3, 5")
4. The AI records them automatically; move to the next surface

Practice on a test patient chart before doing it live. Run through a full quadrant (teeth 1–8, both buccal and lingual) until the voice recognition reliably captures your calling style.

What you should see: Numbers populating in the correct cells of the perio chart in real time as you call them.

Troubleshooting: If the AI mishears numbers, speak slightly slower and more clearly. Background noise (suction running, music) can affect accuracy — turn off the radio during charting.

Choose a patient with a scheduled perio exam. Seat the patient, set up Bola.AI on the operatory computer, and proceed with the exam:

1. The dentist or hygienist probes and calls out measurements
2. You monitor the screen to confirm numbers are recording correctly
3. If a number is missed or wrong, call it again — "Correct tooth 3, buccal, first measurement: 4"
4. At the end, review the completed chart and confirm with the provider

What you should see: A completed full-mouth perio chart with all 6 measurements per tooth (or however your practice charts), populated in under 5 minutes.
